How To Get The Most Out Of A European Vacation

One of the most popular destinations in the world is now Europe. The old world is a great place to visit due to its historical roots, many attractions, culture, and great food. There are also plenty of historical buildings and architecture that make Europe a great place to vacation in. Here are the top locations in Europe to consider for your vacation.

Vacation is a term used in English speaking North America to describe time away from work or school, a trip abroad, or simply a pleasure trip away from home. In the rest of the English-speaking world the word "holiday" is used. In Canada both terms are widely used. In England the word vacation referred specifically to the long summer break taken by the law courts (and later universities) - a custom introduced by William the Conqueror from Normandy where it was intended to facilitate the grape harvest. The French term is similar to the American English: "Les Vacances". The term derives from the fact that, in the past, upper-class families would literally move to a summer home for part of the year, leaving their usual family home vacant.

1. Tower of London

Yes, the crown jewels are located within the tower, in case you are wondering. Members of the royal family were imprisoned and executed here. Stories are abound of headless ghosts floating about.

2. The Louvre

Undeniably one of the best museums of art in the world. Contains such masterpieces as the mona lisa and the venus de milo. Contains other countless and priceless pieces from every European culture.

3. Eiffel Tower

First constructed in 1889 by the same person that made the statue of liberty, the Eiffel Tower stands at 317 meters and was the tallest building in the world at the time of its opening. It has several observation platforms and offers a breathtaking view of the city.

4. Tivoli Gardens

Located in Denmark, Copenhagen, these gardens are one of the worlds first amusement parks. If you visit at night you will be treated to a beautiful array of city lights. Nearby you can find Legoland, one of the best locations to go for those with kids, or those who are still a kid at heart.

5. The Sistine Chapel

Michelangelo's finest work. Comissioned by Pope Julius II in 1508, it stands today as one of the best artistic achievements of the world. The elaborate illustration features scenes of importance from the whole bible.
