Progressive Blackjack Strategy That Works

Author: Tom Shannahan

Blackjack enjoys a rather unique type of predominance in the world of gambling, both as it is played in brick-and-mortar casinos and online. One of the key features that accounts for the nonstop popularity of blackjack is its relative simplicity. Most gambling experts would certainly agree that this is a game far easier to master than, say, traditional forms of poker. And yet the simplicity of blackjack can be somewhat deceptive, as the game involves quite a subtle mix of luck and strategy.

Though most people with even limited inherent skill when it comes to card games are able to muster a certain amount of proficiency at blackjack in a relatively short time, those with a keener understanding of the game look for deeper elements of play. These elements are designed to ratchet up the level of winnings that can be earned within a fixed period of time. Arguably the most widespread of these advanced approaches is known as progressive blackjack. This style of play is generally recommended only for those whove garnered more than an elemental understanding of the game in its more basic form.

Under the rules of progressive blackjack, before any cards are dealt you have the option of making a small side bet that allows you to participate in additional payouts. Upon wagering, you and the dealer (whether it be a live individual in a casino or a computerized internet program) are dealt two cards each to start. The objective of most brands of progressive blackjack - as in the standard version - is to accumulate cards that add up closer to 21 than that of the dealers cards, without going over 21.

Cards are worth their face value with the exception of Kings, Queens, and Jacks which are each worth 10, and Aces, which are worth either 1 or 11. If the value of your hand is closer to 21 than that of the dealer, you win. If the value of the dealer's hand is higher than yours, you lose. If the hands are of equal value the deal is considered a push and your money is returned. If you have a total of 22 or higher (a busted hand), you lose regardless of whether the dealer also busts.

Its quite common to find online gaming rooms that offer games of blackjack using 8 decks of 52 cards each. After a blackjack game has been played, the used cards are shuffled back into the deck. All face cards are valued at 10 and the cards from 2-10 are valued as indicated. Aces can be valued at either 1 or 11; if counting the Ace as 11 would put the hand over 21, then the Ace is automatically counted as 1 instead.

If youre feeling up to the challenge of playing progressive blackjack, you will be in for a wild ride, but it sure is a fun one. Just be certain you have an adequate gambling fund from which to bet without feeling the pinch.
