How To Clean Laminate Floors

Author: Jimmy Sturo

The greatest enemy of laminate floors is dust. This causes dullness. Larger particles of dust, sand or rock may cause visible scratches too. Cleaning or getting rid of such dust from laminate floors is, however, a simple and easy task.

Prevention is the best cure. Measures can be taken to prevent dust and dirt from coming inside the rooms and onto the laminate floors. Doormats and foot brushes should be placed outside rooms to pick up dirt before they enter the room.

Since laminate floors are quite dense, they are easy to clean up. Loose dust, dirt, and particles of sand and rock can be removed by using a vacuum cleaner or by simply dust mopping. Regular vacuuming can keep grit off the laminate floor, as can mopping. The process of damp towel-mopping (preferably with warm water) can also be employed. Polishes and waxes are unnecessary.

Spilled liquids, semi-liquids etc. should be wiped up as soon as possible. In case of spots caused by oil, paint, permanent marker etc. on laminate floors a nail polish remover can come of help. A neutral cleaner or warm water may also prove helpful for blood spots or spots caused by spilt drinks. Simple but careful scraping can be used to remove candle wax and chewing gum from the floor.

For stains and other abrasions that cannot be remedied with home-based techniques, you might have to consult the manufacturer or a laminate floor cleaning expert. Their services might cost a pretty penny, but they will be less expensive than replacing the entire floor.
