What Are Shaped Nappies?

Shaped nappies are two-part nappies fashioned to snugly fit your baby and can be fastened with a Velcro patch or a Nappy Nippa (plastic nappy gripper). The shaped nappy contains several layers of an absorbent material, varying from cotton to terry, making this one of the most leak-proof of nappy designs. A waterproof wrap is worn over the nappy as a further barrier against leaks and stains. Thus, the shaped nappy is most suited for the night.

As they require no folding or pinning, shaped diapers are very easy to use, and can be used in situations that require a quick change. Another convenience is that it can even be fastened beforehand and pulled on like pants for the older toddler. Being shaped, it does not appear bulky beneath the baby's clothes.

Shaped nappies come in two kinds. One-size and multi-size. One size shaped nappies are single sized nappies that can be folded and adjusted to fit perfectly as your baby grows into a toddler. A multi-size shaped nappy pack includes nappies in increasing sizes to accommodate for your baby's growth. Both kinds can be used from birth to potty training. However, your babies' shape changes as they age, and some may outgrow the one-size nappy. So, though the multi-size nappy pack costs more, it's best to consider both options carefully before deciding on a choice. Don't worry about the expense, though! Cloth nappies can be put to other uses around the home, and even sold second hand after a good wash!

Each brand carries both versions of one-size and multi-size shaped cloth nappies, so you can browse through the different styles to your heart's content to select the one that is just perfect for your baby!
